New Dry-Ice Blaster Cleans Molds Faster, Easier and at Lower Cost

A new generation of dry-ice blasting machines is said to provide non-abrasive mold cleaning more cost-effectively than ever before and with greater speed, reliability, and ease of use. Cold Jet, LLC, Cincinnati, says its new Aero Series of blast-cleaning systems save money by conserving the dry-ice blasting medium. They have an insulated hopper with a sealed lid. By reducing sublimation losses, this system maintains dry-ice pellet quality, extends the time between hopper refills, and saves around 15% to 25% in dry-ice costs. In addition, the Aero-Tech spray-nozzle design is said to maximize the blast velocity and provide a more uniform velocity across the entire spray pattern (which is normally more intense in the center than at the edges). This enables fewer spray passes to accomplish the job, saving both time and dry-ice media. This reportedly adds another 10% to 15% to media savings, for a total of roughly 30% to 35%, compared with earlier systems. Other features that make the Aero Series easier to use include larger wheels with softer tires that roll easier over wires and obstacles and new ability to wrap the hoses around the machine without disassembly when moving around the plant. One handy new feature is LED lights on the blasting gun (standard on some models and optional on others), which illuminate the target area for the cleaning spray. Aero models also have a sturdy welded steel frame to withstand heavyduty use. Systems start at under $20,000 for the Aero 40 model, a size appropriate for mold cleaning.
