BASF grades for food contact

Labels:

BASF has introduced seven new engineering polymer grades specifically designed to meet the requirements of EU GMP regulations for food contact which took effect on 1 August.

Typically, these grades would be used in kitchen applications. The Good Manufacturing Practice regulations call for enlarged quality assurance and process control system for plastics that come into contact with food.

The new regulations require plastics manufacturers to make additional efforts in choosing and qualifying materials backed with, "even more comprehensive documentation and quality control," the group said.

Products which have the food contact approval include PA66 types such as Ultramid A3K FC and A3EG6 FC and compounded PBT grades. Two of these are unreinforced Ultradur B4520 FC plus glass fibre reinforced Ultradur B4300 G6 FC.

Three Ultradur base resin types, as well as the Ultrason high temperature polymers and Ultraform acetals, all come with the appropriate quality certification.

Regulation (EC) No 2023/ 2006 On Good Manufacturing Practices - GMP is part of the European Framework Regulation on materials and articles intended for food contact 1935/2004/EC.
