Clarity breakthrough in metallocene-based polyolefin copolymer

Labels:

LyondellBasell's new RM2073 specialty grade resin (metallocene-based polyolefin copolymer) produced using the company's proprietary single-site catalyst technology, has been developed to provide extremely high clarity. RM2073 will stand as a cost-effective alternative to polycarbonate (PC) in injection molding applications and a perfect substitute for glass or for other amorphous, transparent polymers, such as polymethyl-methacrylate or styrene acrylonitrile. The new resin is believed to achieve 2% haze in 1mm thick plaque for injection molders and thus will have extensive applications. Besides, the molders can now have enhanced output and excellent shear-thinning behavior due to RM2073's high melt flow (40' g/10min). The flow characteristics present opportunities for reducing wall thickness or part density. RM2073 can be used in a wide range of injection molded applications including food and beverage packaging, foodservice trays/covers, drinking cups/pitchers, storage containers, CD/DVD cases and technical products.

Compared to PC, RM2073 resin offers better environmental stress crack resistance, requires lower processing temperatures, lower energy costs resulting in better overall economics. RM2073 can be used in a wide range of injection molded applications including food and beverage packaging, foodservice trays/covers, drinking cups/pitchers, storage containers, CD/DVD cases and technical products. The resin can also find its place into medical device applications due to its high purity levels of metallocene-based polyolefin copolymers and brilliant performance
